19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since March of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children at once, so to secure a championship is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

His retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden professional championship, took control to create a third set.

The opponent defended four initial break points in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
